HCB’s upcoming concert, SPRING FEVER, is sure to cure your winter ills and launch you into the annual season of renewal. Several band members and conductors will be featured, showcasing their special talents. Joel Helfand, well-known local saxophonist, will solo with the band, playing Radio Days(arranged by Thomas Reed), and sharing some intriguing sax sounds you may never have heard. A Tribute to Harry James (Arranged by Sammy Nestico) featuring HCB trumpet soloist Woody Dotson, a retired member of the West Point Band, is sure to please. Andrew Jimeson, new Band Director at Brevard High School will conduct recently composed Choose Joy (Randall Standridge). HCB welcomes Jimeson to the area and to the podium. HCB Associate Conductor Cole Hairston, Director of Bands at Brevard College, will conduct modern composer Eric Whitacre’s hauntingly beautiful October which expresses loss, loneliness, and longing. Hairston will also conduct the familiar Radetzky March by Johann Strauss Sr. Our Principal Conductor, Winford Franklin will conduct several pieces including Variations on a Korean Folksong (John Barnes Chance), contrasting five variations on a lyrical Korean folk song and The Ramparts (James Clifton Williams, Jr.) which is reputed to be his wife’s favorite of his works. Franklin will also conduct Nessun Dorma (Let No One Sleep) from the opera Turandot by Puccini. The concert is Sunday, March 3 at 3:00pm in the Blue Ridge Conference Hall at Blue Ridge Community College. Tickets are $10.00 except for students, who are free. Tickets are available at the Hendersonville Visitors Information Center, at the door, and from band members. For additional information, please call 828-713-8590.
