In a Tribute to the Silver Screen, The Hendersonville Community Band will present movie themes spanning several decades of great movie music played under the baton of our own Conductor Winford Franklin, kicking off his ninth season as conductor.  Some of the numbers are “As Time Goes By,” “Tara’s Theme,” “Moon River,” “Theme from Lawrence of Arabia,” Charade,” “Peter Gunn,” The Olympic Spirit,” and “Star Wars.” We will also be playing a group of Disney classics that you will no doubt be seeing the scenes and hearing the words in your head as you enjoy each tune.

Three very special songs will be featured in their entirety. “Schindler’s List” will feature Hendersonville’s ever-popular jazzman, Joel Helfand, playing the solo part on soprano saxophone. This beautiful and haunting rendition will be one to remember.

Our other soloist for this concert will be Mr. Don Wauchope playing the lovely “My Heart Will Go On” solo from the movie Titanic on French horn. This is Don’s first solo with the band and we are very excited for the audience to hear his gorgeous performance.

Another first timer with with the band is guest conductor Joe Brashier, directing the famous classic, “The Wizard of Oz.” Joe, new to the band, plays trombone and is former band director of Appalachian State, Rutgers University, and  Valdosta State University.
A fun piece, “Pie in the Face Polka” will showcase the clarinet section and is sure to get some toe tapping going on. All in all, it will be a fun afternoon of music and memories for everyone.

Join the HCB at The Blue Ridge Conference Hall, Blue Ridge Community College, on Sunday, October 20 at 3:00 for only $10.00 and students are free! Tickets are available from any band member, at the Visitors Center, The Crate Wine Market, and at the door. For additional information, call (828) 713-8590.
